Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day
Saturday, September 20, 2008
North Reading’s annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection takes place this Saturday, September 20, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Spindler DPW Complex at 166 Chestnut Street. There is no charge to residents for any items but proof of North Reading residency must be provided as this collection is for Town residents only.
Because of the location of the collection, the Compost Center will be closed on Saturday.
Among the items being collected are:
        - Automotive fluids
        - Swimming pool chemicals
        - Lawn care products such as fertilizers
        - Oil-based paints, paint thinners and strippers
        -  Stains and varnishes
        - Polishes and cleaners
        - Mercury containing products, such as fluorescent bulbs, thermometers, thermostats
The complete list of which materials will be is accepted is in the Transcript and on flyers at the Flint Library and Town Hall.
Materials that will not be accepted include latex paint, commercial or industrial waste, smoke detectors or other radioactive waste, infectious and biological waste, explosives (ammunition, fireworks), fire extinguishers, prescription medicines or syringes, propane tanks or car batteries. The latter two items are collected in late spring.
